The Medical School OWL aims to implement both gender equality and gender in research and teaching across the board and thus make a long-term contribution to the further development of a gender-equitable university medicine and scientific culture. This also sends out a signal that healthcare is of great importance from the perspective of gender equality. In order to realise gender equality comprehensively, it is not sufficient to focus solely on the level of the nominal proportion of women. Rather, the representation of the category of sex/gender in the research subjects and content of teaching is also important in order to make inequalities between the sexes/ genders visible.
Here you can find the current Gender Equality Plan of the Medical School OWL (valid 2025-2028 / only available in German). The university-wide equality strategy and information on all equality-related measures and activities at Bielefeld University can be found on the Equality and Gender Portal.
The Gender Equality Commission of the Medical School OWL is a permanent commission and is responsible for all matters relating to gender equality in the faculty in accordance with the NRW State Equal Opportunities Act. The Gender Equality Commission advises and supports the faculty management in implementing the Gender Equality Plan.
A central task in the implementation of this Gender Equality Plan is the sustainable and structural anchoring of the topics of equality and gender in the structures of the Medical School OWL.
The Gender Equality Officer of the Medical School OWL also offers confidential counselling to all members of the Medical School OWL.
